Last year, CCHR gave a full-day seminar on CCHR, psychiatry, and its destructive therapies to 140 Traditional Healers Organisation members.
In SA, there are about 300,000 traditional healers belonging to different organisations. The most important and largest is the THO (Traditional Healers Organisation), with about 80,000 members all over SA. According to national statistics, about 60% of black South Africans visit a traditional healer before visiting a Western doctor. They have a capillary presence throughout the country, especially in rural areas.
That is why we decided to train them. It’s prevention.
After that seminar, 50 of them, including their provincial president, who is also a member of the National Board, volunteered to become CCHR Educators.
We went through the CCHR Educator Kit and Marketing of Madness with the purpose of making them Educators.
They were appointed with a letter of appointment as Educators, and they signed it to indicate their acceptance.
They wrote very interesting feedback after the seminar, committing themselves to helping stop psychiatry in their areas.
The Gauteng THO President is signing the CCHR petition to include human rights protections in the current SA Mental Health Act. After her, all 140 members signed it.
